Vik Muniz, Waste Land

Vik Muniz is a Brazilian born visual artist who uses pretty much everything you are not supposed to use to make images, for example sugar, peanut butter, chocolate syrup, and garbage. I recently watched a documentary Waste Land where he goes to the worlds largest landfill in Rio De Janeiro and creates giant portraits of garbage pickers out of garbage, then photographs the garbage portraits for his finished product. They are amazing. Watch the documentary (its on Netflix watch instant) and pay mind to what you throw away and where it goes.

"I don't know any other way."

Went to San Francisco with Jamie over break to hang with Stretch, Merrie, and Charlie. It was helpful for the soul. Good creatures all around. I am having serious thoughts about packin up the wagon and heading to more urban pastures. Who knows? the future is unwritten.

Barbara Kruger

One of my all time favorite artist. Simple, clean, witty, Futura. I'm making a project right now that is lightly bitting her stuff, and I have no shame.
