Piss Christ

Some Christian protesting crazies decided to throw a hammer through Andres Serrano's "Piss Christ" photograph. I think this has happened a few times to Andres Serrano's artworks. He's been pissing people off for a long time, no pun intended. Its interesting work and I think a lot of people miss the point of his concept, but I think that is what happens when you start adding piss and jesus together. Its so easy to have an opinion and a reaction, while it is a bit harder to really try to unravel what the message could be. Christian's who have a problem with Serrano's work are just seeing it as a crucifix in piss, while maybe the artist intention is to convey that society as a whole treats the ideals of Christ poorly. I watched this great interview with a nun who is an art critic and she gets it and calls it what it is. Watch away.

Ai Weiwei

Ai Weiwei is my new favorite contemporary artist. He is a badass. He cuts up 18th century chinese tables and rearranges them and puts them back together. He drops and paints 18th century Chinese vases. He fills a giant space with 100 million handmade and painted porcelain sunflower seeds. Most of all he does an amazing job pissing off the Chinese government.

He focused a ton of his art and influence on exposing an alleged corruption scandal in the construction of Sichuan schools that collapsed during the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. He created a giant sign on the outside of the Tate Modern out of kids backpacks, which represented all the backpacks he saw in the rubble of the collapsed schools after the earthquake.

I can't do him justice with my words. The guy rules, look him up.

anyone need a tattoo (dirt cheap)

I guess sometimes in art school a guy needs to make a homemade tattoo gun. I have a crazy story about making one of these and using it when I was a young teenager. I made one today to remember days gone by.

This is the page of Teddy Roosevelt's diary from the day his wife Alice died of Brights Disease. She was 22, he was 25. He never wrote about Alice ever again.

I keep asking to have my old old heart run over.

I think I'm a pretty good guy. I love people, I care about people, I always try to act out of compassion for others, I will always offer my help, but I am on a bad streak. I am so fucking ready for the tide to turn. I have been getting beaten against the shore for a long time. I keep telling myself it has to get better soon. Then it keeps coming. I watch others who don't always act out of compassion and they seem to be up to their necks in the roses.

When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.
