Tire Pile

Tire Pile, Barstow, CA

"There are things that are hard to photograph: guerrilla warfare, the end of an era, the meaning of a place. And there are things it is nearly impossible to photograph: the subtle workings of the human heart, the wandering paths desire and fury take, the bonds of love and blood that tie people together, the decisions that tear them apart, the way that most unprepossessing landscape can become home and thus speak of stories, traditions, gods that strangers cannot decipher from the rocks and streams." - Rebecca Solnit from River of Shadows

Lost Horizon

Mt. Sentinel, Clinton Montana

One of my cautions to myself is that, in anytime that I think I can name what the elements are and how they fit together, that picture almost always fails. And the picture that I take so quickly that I barely know what I've seen, but with a sense of urgency is almost always more important. - Emmet Gowin

R.I.P. Jason Molina

Jason Molina has been my biggest artistic hero. The man had a career full of evolution and everything he released was always amazing. I can't think of any other musician that I could say that about. I have never been so bummed when someone I didn't personally know has died. Luckily, he put out a ton of music, but I honestly believe you can't have enough of Jason Molina out there. I am 100% serious when I say that in my humble opinion he was the greatest musician who has ever lived. The last two days I have been reading tons of internet comments about Jason and I seriously couldn't find one snarky/shitty comment about him or his music (not that I was looking for them). Like I said, I never met him, but I think the way people speak about him shows how amazing of a person he was. If you have never heard of Jason Molina, please look his music up under these names, Magnolia Electric Co., Songs Ohia photo by Chris Bennett

things from today....

"We now view landscape photographs, both past and present, much like the shadows on the walls of Plato’s cave. They are artifacts of what we think we know about the land, and how we have come to know it." -Mark.Klett

Been busy. Feels like I am free falling, but there are branches to grab at. I just need to reach out for one.
